Yonkers veterans help soldiers overseas stay connected over the holidays

A local veterans group in Yonkers is raising money to buy phone cards so that soldiers overseas can call their loved ones for the holidays.

So far, veterans at the Northeast Jewish Center in Yonkers collected more than 125 pre-paid phone cards that will be donated to soldiers overseas for Christmas and Hanukkah. Commander Irving Gurian, of the Jewish War Veterans, handed those cards over to Rabbi Colonel Ira Kronenberg Sunday to send to the troops. The veterans call it Project Mitzva, which means good deed. The veterans have collected more than $10,000 to buy phone cards.
