Politicians raise their voices in support of striking Verizon workers in Purchase

Politicians raised their voices in support of striking Verizon workers Tuesday in Purchase.

Several state representatives joined Westchester County Executive Andy Spano in calling on the phone company to return to contract talks with the Communication Workers Union. Forty employees in Purchase and 400 statewide have been picketing for a month. The employees are responsible for putting together Verizon?s Yellow Pages.

The union has taken court action against Verizon claiming unfair labor practices. However, a Verizon spokesperson says that charge is without merit. The spokesperson adds that the company wants the employees to return to work but says it is up to the union to return to the bargaining table.
