Westchester police beef up patrols for holiday weekend

DWI checkpoints and seatbelt checks are just a few of the tools Westchester police will be employing as travelers hit the highways this holiday weekend.

State troopers will be out in force making sure the roads are safe for drivers heading to their Thanksgiving destinations. In particular, police will be looking for intoxicated, aggressive and unsafe motorists. They are also following a zero tolerance campaign regarding seatbelts and hand-held cell phone use.

Police say studies have shown that seatbelt use is up to 91 percent, and they want to emphasize that seat belts keep passengers stable in an accident and can save lives.
