Busted heat plunges Yonkers tenants into the cold on Thanksgiving

It was a frigid Thanksgiving for residents of an apartment building in Yonkers.

Tenants of the Caryl Avenue apartment building battled freezing temperatures for more than 48 hours. When a tenant called the county heat hotline, a Yonkers Housing and Buildings inspector tried to contact the building?s owner and superintendent for two days but did not hear back. The landlord finally had a mechanical problem fixed Friday.

There are inspectors on call during holidays and weekends to deal with heat complaints. To resolve a heating issue in Yonkers outside of business hours, call 914-965-3331. The county heat hotline number is 1-800-957-0963.
