Underground tank ruptures spilling 300 gallons of oil in Yorktown

Three hundred gallons of heating oil leaked from an underground tank in Yorktown and spread into a wetland area Saturday.

Officials, who are trying to clean up the mess near a home on Parmly Court in Mohegan Lake, say the oil spill poses no threat to the drinking water. Officials are also unsure when or how the tank ruptured, but are relieved the spill was contained before it seeped into the lake.

Health officials were notified of the problem after a neighbor smelled something funny and called them.
