Partial cliff collapse destroys several businesses in Pelham

A portion of a cliff collapsed Tuesday destroying several businesses in Pelham.

Firefighters arrived at Fifth Avenue around midnight after receiving several calls of panic from area residents. Fortunately no one was inside the Pelham Café, Washington Mutual Bank or the village optometrist when the wall came crashing down. Fire officials were delayed getting inside the buildings because they first had to shut off utilities due to an apparent gas leak.

The businesses that were damaged will most likely have to be torn down and rebuilt.
