Larchmont church caretaker donates new baby Jesus statue after vandalism
A week after vandals brutalized a church nativity scene in Larchmont, the parish held a rededication ceremony Friday thanks to the kindness of the caretaker.
The baby Jesus statue at Saints John and Paul Church was vandalized last Friday, leaving its head and fingers chopped off. Four sheep were also stolen from the manger. Church caretaker Gerry Lopez, who recently won the lottery, donated the new baby Jesus statue. He calls the lottery win that helped him buy the statue a miracle.
Father Brian McWeeney says Lopez's generosity is a message to everyone. McWeeney says they are looking forward to replacing the four missing sheep before the nativity scene is put back up next year.Related storyNativity scene vandalized at Larchmont church
