A newborn baby was abandoned at a Yonkers fire station early Friday morning.
The baby boy was only about five hours old when his mother dropped him off at Fire Station No. 6 on Oak Street at 3 a.m. Firefighters say the mother was very upset and explained she already had six children and couldn?t care for another one. They say the baby was in good health.
The baby?s mother does not face any questions or criminal charges because of New York State?s Safe Haven law. The law allows anyone to drop off an unwanted baby, up to five days old, at any hospital, police or fire station with no questions asked.
