Village of Mamaroneck closes day laborer site

The village of Mamaroneck has decided to close a popular day laborer site.

Every morning, dozens of day laborers gather at Columbus Park to look for work. Village officials say they are closing the site February 1 because they claim the workers, who are mostly illegal immigrants, have become a liability.

The workers say they contribute to the village by offering low wages. The co-president of the Hispanic Resource Center of Larchmont says they were surprised by the village?s decision and they hope to find another site soon.
