Holiday party brings Mamaroneck residents closer together
Despite the warmer temperatures Sunday, plenty of folks in Mamaroneck had no problem getting into a holiday groove. The community, divided on how to best handle its immigrant workers, came together to offer up a spirited holiday party. The Westchester Jewish Synagogue set up the Christmas party for the Catholic Hispanic community at an Episcopal church. The unique scenario brought members of the community one step closer together. This comes one month after a federal judge ruled town officials in Mamaroneck discriminated against Latino day laborers. The town maintains it did nothing wrong and could decide to appeal the decision. The Hispanic Resource Center says day laborers are still struggling to find their place in the community. Members of the center are hoping they can work together with the community to establish a private site for day laborers.
