Eastchester sees rash of break-ins

A rash of break-ins has many Eastchster residents on edge.
Police say they are looking for at least two suspects who may be responsible for burglaries at several homes and apartments in the area of Eastchester near Garth and Overhill roads in just the past few days.
Sources tell News 12 that many of homes were broken into over the weekend while people were sleeping. Some of the break-ins are believed to have happened in the Garth Essex Apartments, where there is no surveillance camera at the entrance.
Police say the height of the holiday season is also prime time for thieves who know people are buying expensive gifts and are often not home because of shopping, holiday parties, or vacations. They say that since the neighborhood is a low-crime area, people feel safe and forget to lock doors or install security systems.
