Federal grant helps Yonkers restore full-day pre-K
Yonkers School District is set to restore its full-day pre-K program thanks to a $33 million federal grant which will be used over a four-year span.
Superintendent Michael Yazurlo wants to add at least one pre-K class to every elementary school in the district. He's already looking at buildings to see if they need any changes or improvements.
"It's my commitment to make sure pre-K stays here and that we're going to build the best pre-K - not only in Westchester County, but the state," Yazurlo told News 12.
The full-day pre-K program is set to return after four years of half-day programs. Nearly 400 fewer children enrolled in the program when it was reduced.
Thousands of students are expected to begin the full-day program in September.
