Yonkers joins suit calling for more state education aid

The city of Yonkers is joining a lawsuit calling for more education funding from the state.

Lawmakers say students in the district are being denied a sound education. Yonkers schools are also in need of repair and lawmakers say extra funding is needed.

Lawmakers say Syracuse is similar in size to Yonkers, but received $60 million more from the state this year, a move the city says is unfair.

The state's Education Department refused to comment on the lawsuit.
