A proposal for a 60-foot fire watch tower at the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation was discussed today at a Westchester County board meeting.

The committee, which oversees the park, sat down Tuesday morning with Tom Cohn, of Friends of the Trailside Museum and Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. Cohn proposes that the tower be erected on the highest point in the park.

The tower would be the exact same model of a fire tower that was taken down in the 1970s.

During the meeting, officials from the Parks Department expressed support for the tower proposal, but they were also concerned about safety.

The original tower was built for use by spotters looking for fires, not for use by the general public.

The total cost of rebuilding the tower is expected to be less than $250,000. Most of the money would come from donations.
