Man accused of embezzling from fire department
The former treasurer of the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department now faces federal charges for stealing millions of dollars from the department.
Michael Klein, 48, of Mahopac, is accused of embezzling almost $6 million from 2002 until last September.
U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara's office says he used the money to buy yachts, jewelry and a second home in Florida. They also claim Klein failed to report any of this on his federal tax returns.
He faces over 20 years in prison if convicted.
