2 shootings occur in Mount Vernon hours apart

Shots rang out in broad daylight in Mount Vernon Saturday, not far from where a man was shot to death the night before.

Dozens of people were inside the Doles Center on South Sixth Avenue when shots came through the building shortly after 12 p.m.

News 12 is told that some people at the Doles Center were hit with glass from shattered windows, but no one was shot.

On Friday night, a man was fatally shot on nearby South Second Avenue. News 12 is told the victim was a man in his 20s who was shot in the street more than a dozen times while possibly picking up his daughter.

A second victim in that shooting was taken to a hospital but is expected to be OK.

Sources tell News 12 the two shootings may be gang-related. Officials have not confirmed if there are any connections between the two incidents.
