Storms knock down trees and power lines

Hundreds of homes across the Hudson Valley lost power last night as storms rolled through the region.

Heavy rain and strong winds knocked down trees and power lines in numerous neighborhoods.

At least 400 customers lost power when wires fell in Yonkers at the corner of Park Hill Avenue and Marshall Road.

More than two dozen homes in Pelham lost power when a huge tree knocked down wires on Carol Place around 8:30 p.m.

Power has since been restored to most areas through the region.

As the summer storm season begins to heat up, utility companies are reminding people to never touch downed wires whether they are live or not.
