A new study says the schools in Yonkers are overcrowded.
A study by KG and D Architects shows capacity is over by almost 4,500 kids, forcing some students to learn in converted closets and basements instead of proper classrooms.
In addition to overcrowding, the schools are suffering from deterioration. School 17 in Yonkers has two dehumidifiers running all day long in a basement classroom after a water main break two weeks ago.
Yonkers is looking for Albany to pass a new law that would pay to rebuild the district. The legislative session ends mid-June.
