Fire forces 60 onto the street
Over 60 people had to be evacuated after a fire ignited in the their New Rochelle apartment building overnight.
Fire officials say flames broke out on the third floor of the building at 77 Centre St. around 5 a.m. "We just heard people screaming when we looked out the door we saw the fire department running upstairs," says resident Wasner Eliezer.
Crews were able to contain the flames to one apartment. Most residents were able to go back to their apartments by about 9 p.m. Damage prevented the three people living in the apartment where the fire started and a family of six next door from going back.
While no one was seriously injured, five people had to be brought to the hospital due to smoke inhalation.
