Yonkers police veteran passes away
A veteran of the Yonkers Police Department has died.
Retired Deputy Police Chief Owen McClain passed away on Sunday at the age of 90.
McClain worked for the department for more than 40 years until retiring as deputy chief in 1989.
McClain was a WWII Marine Corps veteran who saw action on the islands of Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He joined the Yonkers Police Department in 1949.
A wake will be held at Flynn Memorial Home in Yonkers on Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Monastery Church in Yonkers. He will be buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in New Rochelle.
McClain is survived by three children, five grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
