Decades-old Mount Vernon murder remains unsolved

Officials are still hoping to solve a murder case in Mount Vernon that's gone cold.
A unidentified woman referred to as Jane Doe was found dead on Carlton Avenue on Valentine's Day in 1988, according to Mount Vernon native Jessica Rocchio.
"The killer is still out there," she says.
Jane Doe is believed to have been 5 feet 3 inches tall, 105 pounds and between the ages of 18 and 25 years old.
A nearby worker found her body, which had been strangled.
"When they found her, she was completely nude," Rocchio says. "She had no jewelry on her, no clothing. The only thing she had on were pink Lee press-on nails."
Police have yet to find a break in the case, but mayor Richard Thomas says he is taking action on it as well as many other cold cases.
"We met with the FBI last week and we have been asking about bringing closure," he says.
