Parents lobby for East Ramapo oversight at State of the State
East Ramapo parents lobbied lawmakers at Gov. Andrew Cuomo's State of the State address Wednesday for more school district oversight.
Parents say they want lawmakers to authorize an oversight bill recommended by a monitoring team that has spent several months studying the school district.
If enforced, it would install a state monitor, equipped with the power to veto school board decisions. Parents say, for the most part, the board isn't improving its grades when it comes to acting in the best interest of the children.
The monitors made a total of 19 recommendations in Albany. News 12 has learned that the board has now hired a lobbyist to help defeat them.
News 12 tried multiple times to get comment from the district, but hasn't heard back from them yet.
