Sinkhole opens up on Marble and Castleton avenues in Pleasantville

Thousands of gallons of water spilled onto Marble Avenue in Pleasantville after an 8-inch water main burst late Sunday night.
A 5-foot deep sinkhole formed by Monday morning, shutting down sections of the busy road and forcing detours around Castleton Street. It also left many without water.
The water main was fixed by Monday afternoon, but people living on five surrounding streets were issued a boil water advisory through Wednesday.
DPW Superintendent Jeff Econom says he plans to fill the gaping sinkhole with a concrete, sand and water mixture.
He said it would take a day to cure, and then blacktop would be placed on top of it.
