Family grieves for woman killed in murder-suicide
Officials say a retired police chief from Newburgh gunned down his ex-girlfriend and then took his own life over the weekend.
The body of 55-year-old Marie Giannone was found in her car Saturday morning, just steps from her home in Goshen.
Ginannone and 55-year old-Patrick Sorrentino, a former Newburgh deputy police chief, reportedly broke up in August.
Charity Oswald-Giannone was left Saturday with the task of explaining to her 10-year-old son that his grandmother was gone.
The family remembers Giannone as a wonderful mother and grandmother.
Both bodies have yet to be released to the families.
Police are continuing to investigate.
