WC groups build furniture for Pope Francis' Mass

Two Westchester groups are putting their building talents to good use to make furniture for Pope Francis' trip to New York.

Members of Don Bosco Workers and Obreros Unidos, whose members include day laborers, are building a wooden chair that the pope will use when he celebrates Mass at Madison Square Garden next month.

"I can't describe it," says Hector Rojas. "I'm excited." For him and others, building the chair is about more than furniture.

"The Holy Father wanted simple," says Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who visited the groups' garage workshop on Westchester Avenue in Port Chester.

The altar and lectern for the Mass at MSG are being constructed at Lincoln Hall in Somers.
