Succession looming for East Ramapo superintendent

The days of embattled East Ramapo Schools Superintendent Joel Klein may be numbered.

The calls for Klein to step down have been growing louder by the month.

Sources tell News 12 that there have been meetings in recent months where the school board has discussed replacing Klein, even before his contract runs out next year.

Klein has come under fire for comments more than once during his tenure, most recently for negative remarks he made about Latino students.

The state Regents chancellor has also blasted him for the district's deficits and mismanagement.

Officials did not say when the succession would take place.
