Police: Unclear if emergency brake used in crash
The driving instructor injured in the Warwick crash that killed two students had an emergency brake, but police say it's not clear if he used it.
Decat Driving School instructor Julio Anglero, 60, was teaching Claudia Krebs how to drive from the front seat while three students were in the back seat. When Krebs drove through a four-way intersection, she collided with a tractor-trailer. The crash killed Antonio Baglivo and Paul Van Doran.
There was confusion over the status of the third victim Lucas O'Connor. Despite a statement being released by the Goshen Central School District saying Lucas O'Connor succumbed to his injuries, the 16-year-old is still listed as a patient at the Westchester Medical Center.
Hospital officials confirm O'Connor is listed in their directory, but they are not saying whether or not he was on life support.
Decat President William Ruggles says that they still don't know exactly how this happened. Goshen School Superintendent Daniel Connor says he's also at a loss for what went wrong. He says the driver's education program has been stopped for "the rest of the year."
