Dispatcher hailed a hero after saving mom, daughter
A dispatcher from the Montgomery Police Department is being hailed a hero Tuesday after saving a mother and daughter who were allegedly kidnapped by the woman's husband.
The victim, identified only as Kamisha, and her 7-year-old daughter were allegedly beaten and imprisoned inside her husband's work truck for 24 hours. Authorities say the incident happened after Kamisha found out that Demir allegedly raped her daughter.
Kamisha's calls to 911 kept dropping, but she eventually managed to reach the Montgomery Police Department. Dispatcher Jessica Phleger says because the calls kept dropping she started texting Kamisha from her personal cell phone. Kamisha told Phleger that they were traveling through Montgomery and her husband, Cengiz Demir, was going to kill them.
Phleger spent three hours on the phone with Kamisha and didn't get off the phone until the two were found in Paterson, New Jersey. Phleger says she was nervous and scared because the phone disconnected after she heard a man say he was going to kill Kamisha.
Demir, a 41-year-old Turkish immigrant, was taken into custody. Authorities say Demir is facing federal rape and kidnapping charges and is being held in the Passaic County Jail.
