Night of violence erupts in Yonkers
A man was fatally shot and another person was stabbed in Yonkers overnight.
Police say they received a call early Wednesday morning about a stabbing in front of an apartment building at 184 Linden St. just off busy Park Hill Avenue.
They found a Hispanic male heavily bleeding. The victim was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx and is listed in stable condition.
As police were working on the scene, they say a man came running up Park Hill saying his friend had been shot one block down in front of a multifamily home at 120 Waverly St.
Police say the 22-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was walking with his friend when a man with a gun came up to the pair and demanded money. They say the victim attempted to disarm his assailant, but was shot twice in the torso. The victim died half a block away.
As police were canvassing the area, they stopped a man in a taxi cab who police say fit a description of a suspicious person. They took him in for questioning, but they have not said if there is a connection to either crime.
