30 arrested in welfare fraud bust

Authorities have arrested 30 people in a welfare fraud sweep in Orange County.

Officials announced Wednesday the arrests of men and women who they say scammed a total of $324,000 in public assistance, which included Medicaid benefits, food stamps and temporary aid.

The bust is the third countywide sweep since last year.

Those arrested include two men from the ultra-Orthodox village of Kiryas Joel.

Officials say since that they started the sweeps, they've gotten back almost $300,000 and that they're far from finished.

Officials say the FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office are looking into the arrests. More arrests are expected.
