Police: Mom tied son to bush in Spring Valley

Police say a 22-year-old single mother tied her 4-year-old son to a bush in Spring Valley.

They say Mary Quinde-Castro tethered the boy to the bush at around 9 a.m. while she was working. It happened outside the Blueberry Hill condo complex, located at 220 Kearsing Parkway.

The boy was allegedly tied up by the straps of his backpack to keep him in one place as his mother carried garbage out of the building, where she worked as a baby sitter for another family.

A neighbor saw the child and called police.

Child Protective Services has become involved in the case, and News 12 is told the boy has been placed in the care of a relative.

The suspect, who lives at of 31 Clinton St., is being charged with child endangerment, which is a misdemeanor.

Quinde-Castro is out on $2,500 bail and is due back in court on July 2.
