A dog is back home safe and sound after firefighters sprang into action to save the pooch from a storm drain.
Pepsi is a loyal and lovable dog who found herself in a bad situation when she became trapped in a drainage pipe on Cooper Court in Suffern Monday night, says owner Linda Pelletier.
Firefighters first tried to call Pepsi, hoping that she would come to them. But Pepsi is 16 years old and has lost much of her hearing and sight over the years.
After working diligently for hours to rescue Pepsi, firefighter Hunter Potter freed the dog with a makeshift hook. "When we made the hole in the pipe, the dog was facing the opposite direction of me," he says. "I was able to kind of hook around the dog's shoulders and turn her around."
The rescue operation took nearly four hours, but there were smiles and the feeling of relief once Pepsi was safe.
"They saved my child's life," says Pelletier. "She's one of my children."
