4 teen girls accused in Hawthorne robbery

Four girls under 16 years old appeared in family court Monday morning after police say they robbed a woman in Hawthorne.
Officials say that a woman from New York City was trying to get home when she was confronted by the girls at the Hawthorne train station around 7:15 p.m. Sunday.
"The young lady was on the railway platform and they came up and just started hassling her," said Detective Sgt. Artie Romaine.
Police say the girls grabbed the victim's neck, rendering her almost unconscious before taking her iPhone and laptop. They escaped up a set of stairs.
They were caught on a neighboring street.
Police say the girls are friends from Hawthorne Cedar Knolls Residential Treatment Center. They were sent to Woodfield Detention Cottage and appeared in Mount Pleasant family court Monday morning.
Mount Pleasant police say the girls won't be sent to jail. The family court will decide the best treatment options for them.
