TZB construction caps, piles & supports emerge from Hudson

There is an exciting new site for observers watching the construction of the new Tappan Zee Bridge.
Pier caps, piles and supports are now visible as they emerge from the Hudson River.
Each pile is custom-made for the Tappan Zee Bridge. The largest one is 90 tons and can carry anywhere from 3 million to 7 million pounds.
The visible foundation is also a constant reminder of safety precautions that boaters must take near the site. In July 2013, a joyful pre-wedding boat cruise on the Hudson River turned into a tragedy that took the life of the bride-to-be and a groomsman. Lindsay Stewart and her fiance's best friend, Mark Lennon, were killed when the boat they were riding on with others smashed into a construction barge near the Tappan Zee Bridge. The boat's intoxicated driver, JoJo John, pleaded guilty in June to vehicular manslaughter charges.
The area now has better lighting and signage, along with several additional safety measures.
