1 dead, 1 injured in school bus accident

One person was killed and another was seriously hurt when a school bus and garbage truck collided in Orange County Friday morning.

Police say the crash happened just after 8 a.m. on Route 211. Troopers say the truck was driven by 21-year-old Cesar Leon-Sanchez, of Goshen. They say he drifted into the eastbound lane, crashing head-on into the bus just outside Middletown.

There were no students on the bus at the time of the incident.

The bus driver, 69-year-old Raymond Lucca Sr., of Walden, died at the scene. Leon-Sanchez was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center. He is in serious condition.

Charges against the truck driver are pending.
