False report locks down school districts
Police say a false report of a hostage situation at a Garrison home Thursday morning caused a one-hour lockout at several Putnam County schools.
Officials say someone called the Putnam County Sheriff's Office at around 10 a.m. saying a woman and her son were being held at gunpoint at a home on Manitou Street and Route 9D in Garrison.
Streets around the home were blocked off, and Garrison and Haldane schools were put on lockdown.
The prank, called swatting, also happened last month on Joyce Road in Eastchester, sparking a massive police response.
The superintendent of the Garrison School District says she put schools on lockout as a safety precaution.
