Police: Woman shot, killed ex in self-defense
A woman shot and killed her ex-boyfriend in an act of self-defense after he broke into her Mahopac home, police say.
According to authorities, a 911 call was received at around 2 a.m. Saturday from a woman who said her 47-year-old ex-boyfriend was trying to break into her Ann Road home. A second 911 call was also made from the home by a tenant living in the basement. The tenant reported that the man was armed and entering the home.
Police have not disclosed what occurred between the woman and her ex, but online reports say the woman confronted him and tried to wrestle the gun from his hands. Shots were heard, and police arrived to find the woman bleeding from a gunshot wound to the leg.
The ex-boyfriend was found bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. He later died at the scene.
Neighbors say they were aware of some form of ongoing dispute between the reportedly 50-year-old woman and her ex-boyfriend, but they never thought it would escalate to deadly violence.
The woman was taken to Danbury Hospital. There is no word on her condition.
Police say the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
