Tenant, neighbor escaped deadly house fire

The tenant of two musicians killed Wednesday in a house fire says he jumped out of a window before helping a neighbor escape the flames.

Officials deemed the fire suspicious after investigators say they found accelerant at the scene of the Hillcrest Avenue fire. The blaze killed famed composer Ronald Senator and his wife Miriam Brickman, a classical pianist.

Carlo Longo Dorni says he returned home to the house where he rented a third-floor room to find it up in flames. He went inside to try and salvage some of his belongings before the heat forced him out of a window.

He says he heard a woman screaming and helped her out of another window. Both survived.

Police have questioned Longo Dorni and continue the investigate the cause of the fire.
