Police rescue 9 people after boat capsizes

Mamaroneck police say a boat carrying nine people capsized, sending everyone on board into the Long Island Sound.

The incident occurred at around 6:30 p.m., just off the coast of Mamaroneck.

Police say everyone was rescued, but some of the people tossed into the water suffered from hypothermia and were rushed to the hospital.

Police are investigating what caused the boat to overturn.

In a separate incident a few hours later, police rescued four teenage kayakers from the water near Rye. They were taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution.
