Christians mark Holy Thursday

Christians in the Hudson Valley and throughout the world marked Holy Thursday yesterday.

Holy Thursday is the time Christians believe that Jesus instituted the Mass, the Holy Eucharist and held the Last Supper with his apostles.

During the evening's service, the priest washed the feet of some parishioners to honor Jesus Christ's life of service. At the Vatican, Pope Francis celebrated Holy Thursday Mass hours before heading to Rome's main prison to wash the feet of inmates - a pre-Easter ritual designed to show his willingness to serve others.

Good Friday, commemorates Jesus' death on the cross.

Holy Week culminates Easter Sunday, the day Catholics believe Jesus rose from the dead.
