Construction forces lane closures on TZB

Construction on the new Tappan Zee Bridge is moving forward and that means drivers need to prepare for upcoming lane closures.

Between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 4:30 a.m. Thursday, three left lanes on the northbound side of the New York State Thruway will be closed from Exit 9 by Tarrytown to Exit 10 by Nyack. One lane will remain open for traffic during the closure.

According to Tappan Zee Constructors, the group that is building the new $3.9 billion bridge, two floating concrete plants recently returned to the work site, passed the required testing, and will soon begin pumping concrete.

The plants were taken out of service back in December after an accident. A failure in one of the concrete storage silos caused it to tip making two other silos on the barge bend and collapse.

The concrete shutdown coincided with a planned two-month winter shutdown that was part of their schedule to account for weather conditions.
