Spray-painted nooses found on Purchase College campus

Purchase College students say they found spray-painted pictures of nooses on campus.

Swastikas were previously found inside a dormitory last Wednesday.

The hateful graffiti was painted inside freshman dorms, which house 600 students.

The Westchester DA is investigating both incidents as a felony hate crime. The person responsible could face up to three years in prison.

News of the incidents was sent to students in an email from the school president, who called the crimes "reprehensible and unacceptable."

Student Jeziel Jimenez claims tensions between black and white students have been escalating for months since the police shooting death of unarmed black teen Michael Brown. He says signs reading "Black Lives Matter" that were posted on campus were burned.

The school is stepping up security patrols and will host a community meeting on Wednesday.
