Body found in Yonkers backyard identified

Authorities have identified the body of a woman found dead in a Yonkers backyard.

Police say the woman was 34-year-old Meredith Checker.

Checker lived on Stone Avenue with a young son before her naked body was found by neighbor John Mooney early Sunday morning behind his house at 148 Stone Ave.

"I let the dog out and the girl's body was there," he said. "That's all in the back of the house. It was a complete shock, a complete surprise."

Investigators say there was no trauma to the body, and Yonkers police say they are waiting for the results of toxicology tests to determine the exact cause of Checker's death.
