Westchester County jail health care debate heats up

County Executive Rob Astorino and Westchester Democrats are clashing over who should pay for health care for inmates at the Westchester County jail. Currently, nearby Westchester Medical Center administers these services, but in January, hospital officials implemented a contract clause which would allow the agreement to be canceled in late July.

In an effort to save taxpayers money, Astorino hired Correct Care Solutions to take over health care operations. County Board Democrats are working to block this as they say they want to allow for a more open and transparent process.

If the contract with the medical center is terminated, 75 hospital workers are in danger of being laid off from their jobs.
