Port Chester residents to vote under new system

Port Chester residents are set to vote for their elected officials under a new voting system being implemented in the village.

With candidates vying for all six seats on the Board of Trustees, local residents are preparing to vote June 15 under the cumulative voting system, in which residents will be able to cast all their votes for the same person or split them among several candidates.

The new system was put in place after a federal judge ruled the voting rights of Hispanics had been violated with the at-large system formerly used by the village.
