WC lawmakers get update on Bronx River oil spill

Five days after gallons of oil spilled into the Bronx River, county legislators were updated on the situation.

County health department representatives discussed what may have caused 200 gallons of oil to spill from an apartment building at 235 Lexington Ave., leading to a massive cleanup effort that spanned over three miles.

White Plains police have joined the investigation to determine whether anyone will be held criminally accountable. The foremost concern, officials say, is to ensure a similar situation does not occur in the future.

The health department and county board are set to meet again once the cleanup and investigations are complete.
