Layoffs loom for school bus drivers

More than 100 school bus drivers may be losing their jobs as the Greenburgh Central Seven School District plans to drop its contract with White Plains Bus Company.

White Plains Bus Company got the contract to provide bus service to the district in 2001.

Bus company officials, who did not want to go on camera, confirmed that they were told on Monday that the district has chosen another company to provide busing at a May 11 school board meeting.

Company officials confirmed that the move would result in more than 100 workers losing their jobs. The company that will take over, Montauk Bus, has not yet reached out to those drivers for the possibility of being rehired.

School district officials declined to comment on the story.
