Somers home destroyed after water main break

The Wheeler family says that all of its memories and records were destroyed, along with a lot of other belongings, when a water main break flooded their Somers home last week.

Robert Wheeler, who lives in the house at 1 Deerpark Drive, says that a 16-inch water main operated by the Westchester County Joint Water Works burst open above his backyard last Thursday.

Wheeler says he was not home at the time, but that his children watched as a wall of water filled in their entire yard in about six minutes.

The Wheelers have started a claim with their home insurance company, but it is not yet clear who is responsible for the damage.
