Astorino slams 'double-dipping' retirement plan

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino is calling on legislators to scrap a plan that would allow county workers to participate in two retirement incentive plans simultaneously.

In order to cut costs, county employees have been offered up to $30,000 to retire early. However, there's also a state retirement incentive plan that would increase the amount workers would receive.

"It's an abuse of the system, and it's almost a theft of taxpayer money," Astorino says.

County Board members say they have drafted a new bill that requires county employees to choose just one incentive plan.

A public hearing on the issue will be held Monday, followed by a vote.
