Witnesses recount pleading with TZ jumper

Three Rockland county women say that they pleaded with a 19-year-old Army cadet to rethink her decision before she jumped from the Tappan Zee Bridge early yesterday morning.

Private Elizabeth Lynch Gonzalez, a Lakeland High School graduate, was upset that her deployment date had been moved up according to family members.

Sharon Seward was heading home over the bridge when she saw Gonzalez out of her vehicle. She says she did everything she could to persuade the young private not to jump. "I was asking her and I was pleading with her, 'Don't jump, don't jump, life is not that serious,'" Seward says.
